Fashioned for Renewal: An Easter Reflection from the SBC Academy

Easter is a time of reflection, celebration, and renewal. It reminds us that with faith comes transformation, inside and out. As Christian women, we’re often taught to focus on our hearts, our character, and our spiritual walk. But rarely do we hear that it’s okay—actually good—to care about how we look, too. In her book Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad: A Styling Guide for Every Woman, Shari challenges the idea that faith and fashion are at odds. She makes it clear that how we present ourselves on the outside can and should reflect who we are on the inside. Not in a showy or self-centered way, but with confidence and clarity, knowing that we’re daughters of God, beautiful, bold, and deeply loved.

Shari points out that Scripture doesn’t shy away from outer beauty. Proverbs 31 describes a woman clothed in fine linen and purple, full of strength and dignity. Her style wasn’t separate from her substance, it was an extension of it. In the same way, when our faith is the foundation, our fashion becomes a reflection—not a replacement—of that identity. But let’s be real: we’ve all had our “Coach bag in the glass case” moments when something material had a little too much pull on our focus. Shari’s story about being consumed by a purse is funny but powerful. It’s a reminder that when we let fashion become an idol instead of an expression, we lose sight of what really makes us beautiful. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about what you wear, it’s about why. Are you dressing to impress, or are you dressing in a way that reflects who God is shaping you to be?

That’s where SBC Academy steps in. It’s not about setting rules—it’s about revealing the why behind what works for you. Using Shari’s proprietary color analysis and style systems, SBC empowers women to embrace color and dress in a way that feels aligned with who they are inside and out. Each certification within the Academy offers something unique: Color & Style Consultant covers both color and style, Color Analysis for Hair Pros focuses solely on color, and 27 Hangers is all about mastering personal style. Interning at Style by Color has completely shifted how I view fashion. I’ve learned that what you wear isn’t just about trends, it’s a visual language that reflects confidence, character, and conviction. Shari has built that belief into every part of the Academy: fashion guided by purpose, not pressure. Especially around Easter, a time of renewal and reflection, it’s powerful to remember that true beauty begins within, and then radiates through how we show up.

This Easter, as we celebrate the new life we have through Christ, let’s also give ourselves permission to show up fully, spiritually, and stylistically because honoring God doesn’t mean hiding your beauty. It means letting Him shine through it.
